Wild Again: Keeping Outdoor Gear in Play

Outdoor apparel and equipment are designed for durability, yet too often they’re under-used, replaced early, or pushed to the back of a closet. Wild Again – Wild Rock Outfitters’ new re-commerce program in Peterborough, Ontario – aims to change that by making reuse an easy, trusted, and community-forward option for shoppers who want great gear without the full “new” price tag.

Wild Again is built around a simple loop: customers trade in gear they’re no longer using, receive store credit, and Wild Rock reintroduces those items to the market after inspection and preparation. The program is explicitly positioned around extending product life, “keep quality gear in play”, and encourages customers to either trade in or shop used, either in-store or online!

Operationally, Wild Again runs like a small-scale circular supply chain housed inside a single-store retailer:

  • Trade-in intake happens in-store (staff inspect the items and provide instant store credit).
  • Mail-in trade-ins expand reach beyond Peterborough, with shipped items assessed and credit issued digitally, without the customer needing to wait for the item to sell.
  • Shopping – can take place either in-store or online.
  • Quality control is a core promise: items are “hand-checked”, cleaned, and prepared for their “next adventure”. And all purchases have a 30-day return policy.

While they are just starting out, Wild Again has already seen significant success in this project and we encourage you to check them out in person or online next time you have a jacket or hiking pants that need a new home!
